State Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards for California Public Schools

The Dance Curriculum meets every category of the State Content Standards.
The information below shows the State Standards and the classes where those standards will be met.

1.0 Artistic Perception
Processing, Analyzing and Responding to Sensory Information through the Language and Skills unique to Dance.
1.1 - 1.3 Demonstrate refined physical coordination when performing movement phrases (e.g. alignment, agility, balance strength).
1.4 - 1.5 Demonstrate clarity of intent while applying kinesthetic principles for all dance levels. Apply knowledge of dance vocabulary to distinquish how movement looks physically in space, time, and force/energy.

2.0 Creative Expression
Creating, Performing, and Participating in Dance
2.1 - 2.5 Creating a choreographed piece, identify basic music elements, perform original works that show personal intent and communicate effectively.
2.6 - 2.7 Teach movement patterns to peers collaborating in the development of choreography.

3.0 Historical and Cultural Content
Understanding the Historical Contributions and Cultural Dimensions in Dance
3.1 - 3.4 Identify and perform dances with appropriate stylistic nuances.
Explain how choreography communicates universal themes and social issues. Describe ways in which folk/tradtional and theatrical dances reflect specific cultural contents.

4.0 Aesthetic Valuing
Responding to, Analyzing, and making Judgments About Works of Dance
4.1 - 4.5 Describing how qualities of theatrical production contributes to the success of a dance performance. Defend personal preferences about dance styles and choreographic forms.

5.0 Connections, Relationships, Applications
Connecting and Applying What is Learned in Dance to Learning in Other Art Forms
5.1 - 5.5 Demonstrate use of media technology for recording, analyzing and creating dances. Using dance to develop creative skills for lifelong learning and well-being. Examine the training, education and experience necessary to pursue the many dance career options.
